After talking to Maggie for a while, we decided that I should gather enough
courage and try to find the from guy earlier. Let alone his name. Maggie forced
me to turn off my phone and leave it in my bag. She doesn't want me worrying
about Jacob and explains to me that he will ruin my chance with the yet to be
known roommate. I swear, I don't get half the stuff she talks about. Her and
her strange fantasies.
Me and Maggie go off on our own ways, exiting the cabin. Maggie said that she
wanted to practice for the camps yearly play and said she wanted to hear all
the details later. I start hiking in the other direction, having no idea where to look.
Some campers are starting to head back to their cabins from the opening
ceremony. I decided to walk towards the amphitheater thinking that I might be
able to catch up to him. As I was walking past a group of kids, I happen to spot
two familiar faces.
"Hey!" Mason greets me while waving, with a huge smile planted on his face.
Andrew stood next to him, wearing a black hoodie, with the hood over his face.
His face expressionless.
"Hey." I greeted back. I give them a small wave, being as friendly as I can.
"Guess we missed you at the ceremony. Sorry. We tried saving you a seat,
but too many people started gathering around."
"N-no, it's ok. I didn't go. This is my second time here, so I already know what
they talk about." I look up at them and notice Andrew staring at me intensely,
startling me.
"Oh. Well that makes sense. By the way, I found out that guy's name, our roommate.
I asked the person who keeps track of that stuff, and she told me his name is Caleb.
Have you met him yet?"
Caleb. The name seemed to fit. But why is my heart beating so hard?
"Yeah," I replied, "I met him. But only for a second. I had to leave to do
something important. So we didn't get to talk much."
I tried to pull off a smile, hoping that they wouldn't ask about what that "thing" was.
"Ok. Hopefully we will get to meet him later then. Me and Andrew has some
stuff we need to go over before dinner. Just some paperwork that we have to turn in
to the Main Office. We'll have to catch up later. See ya!" Mason gives me another
smile while Andrew just nods goodbye and they both start heading back to the cabin.
I watch both of them walk off. Noticing Andrew staying close to Mason.Great, I
thought to myself. I finally know his name. Now it will be less awkward when I finally
meet him. Although, it might be even more awkward that I do know his name
without him telling me. I start worrying again. Thinking that I might say something
stupid. But I can't give up now!
After walking around the amphitheater for about ten minutes, I decided to walk
around the other facilities, where each elective is taken place. I looked around the
Art Room, Cafeteria, and even around the Rec Room. No luck. Where the heck
could he be? Before on giving up, I thought I would check out the Music Room before
heading back.
When I walk up to the door, I heard a soft melody that sounded like it was from
an electric guitar coming from within. I open the door slowly and that's when
I spotted him. The boy who I was scared to see. The boy who I was looking for.
Caleb.
He was playing on a bright, red and black fender guitar. His eyes were closed,
concentrating on the notes from his fingertips. Not even aware of his surroundings.
He was playing a sweet sound that sounded like a mix of jazz and rock. I wasn't
quite sure what it was. It was just beautiful.
Without noticing, I went to grab for the table next to me and accidentally pushed
a pair of drumsticks to the ground. Making a loud thud. Caleb stopped playing and
looked at me is shock.
"S-s-sorry," I stuttered, struggling for the right words. "I-It's just you looked like you
were so intense into the music, t-that I didn't want to disturb you."
I look down to the ground, feeling so embarrassed.
"No, it's ok." He gets up to pick up a chair and sets it next to his.
"Come and sit," He pats the bare seat, telling me to sit. "You came to talk to me
right?"
